Alonso de Gortari Briseno

Alonso de Gortari is the Chief Economist and Director of Product at Mysten Labs, where he leads economic research and product development to enhance Web3 accessibility and decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. He brings over a decade of experience in economics, blockchain technology, and digital assets, shaping financial systems that bridge traditional and decentralized markets. Prior to joining Mysten Labs, Alonso was a Research Scientist at Novi Financial, Meta’s blockchain division, where he contributed to the development of stablecoin infrastructure, payment technologies, decentralized finance (DeFi), and smart contracts. Prior to Web3, Alonso spent over five years in academia, first as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Princeton University focusing on international finance and digital economies, and next as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Dartmouth College, specializing in macroeconomics, financial markets, and global trade.Alonso holds Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Economics from Harvard University, where he also co-taught courses on International Macroeconomics and Globalization.
